About the Swedish Christmas Fair
SWEA Toronto's annual Swedish Christmas Fair started in 1982. For 37 years we held the Christmas Fair at Toronto's Harbourfront Centre. In 2019 we moved to a new venue at Daniels Spectrum in Toronto. During the Covid-pandemic restrictions in 2020 and 2021 we had to re-think and opened up our Swedish Christmas Fair webshop. This year (2022) we will once again sell food and candy through our webshop, but we are also planning a live Christmas Fair this year.
Each year the Swedish Christmas Fair attracts thousands of people who come to enjoy the Swedish food at the Café, the Lucia procession, the Swedish Folk Dancers and Choir, the Childrens Loft with Crafts, the Book Corner, the yearly exhibit and of course the large selection of Swedish designed products. The large selection of Swedish food in the 'Mathörnan' or 'Taste of Sweden' as we also call it, provides the Scandinavian population and the adventurous Canadians with all the necessary items for their Christmas Smörgåsbord.
The Swedish Christmas Fair is our largest fundraiser of the year. The money raised goes towards the yearly donations and scholarship program that SWEA Toronto supports each year. We support the Swedish Church, the Swedish School, the Swedish Folkdancers and Singers and also other Swedish related cultural in the GTA. Each year we award scholarships to Ontario students who have been accepted to study in a Swedish university. In 2022 we awarded $20,000 to ten students that studies at Ontario universities.
This year, 2022, we again offer a virtual version of our beloved Swedish Christmas Fair. Due to the ongoing pandemic we can not be completely sure that the government will allow us to organize the Swedish Christmas Fair in it's usual form. At this point we are planning to run our 'regular' Swedish Christmas Fair in November. However, we can not be completely sure that it will be able to go ahead at this point. We can also not imagine not providing all of our faithful guests with their favourite Swedish foods in time for Christmas. We decided to organize a webshop, sell through the summer and then ship all the food and candy from Sweden in the fall, arriving in Canada in time for Christmas.
Please note: We will only sell food and candy via the webshop this year. These items will not be offered at the Swedish Christmas Fair 'live' event. If you want Swedish food and candy, please purchase these via the webshop. All other Swedish products, such as Swedish Design, SwedeDames crafts, Pappershörnan etc will be offered at the 'live' Swedish Christmas Fair in November.
Pick-up of the food and candy will take place during the 'live' fair - curbside - at Daniels Spectrum, Nov. 19 - 20, 2022.
We thank you for your continued support of the Swedish Christmas Fair and hope to see you in person again in November 2022.
Have a wonderful Christmas. God Jul.
